An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a preferred method of substance abuse treatment for many individuals who go to work, school, or have personal schedule limitations that preclude a lengthy stay in a residential program. Often, former clients tell us that attending the IOP group in early recovery was essential in providing them with the skills necessary to cope with life stressors.
La Via Detox and Behavioral Health offers IOP in both day and evening formats that consist of three sessions each week as well as individual sessions with a dedicated counselor. Highly flexible treatment planning allows us to put together the right mix of individual and group sessions that adhere to your personal schedule.
La Via’s IOP provides addiction education, group and individual counseling. Clients learn about addiction, family systems, defense mechanisms against “triggers”, 12-Step recovery models, and relapse prevention strategies. Group therapy is an essential component of the addiction recovery process; at La Via clients receive the guidance of caring professionals throughout the IOP process. You will receive the care and guidance of the finest professionals – that communicate with you throughout your intensive outpatient drug or alcohol treatment program.
Addiction takes a toll on virtually every aspect of our patient’s lives. That’s why our initial intake process includes a comprehensive medical, psychological and social assessment.
This assessment provides an accurate diagnosis of the patient’s current condition and becomes the foundation for a holistic treatment plan and determining progress during treatment. Input from loved ones as well as the patient’s history and perception of their condition are essential and valued. Any co-existing disorders or pertaining to medical issues are also evaluated at this time.
Support from the patient and loved ones or family members (if applicable) is an integral part of the plan. Throughout treatment, the primary counselor and supervisory staff provide support to both the family and individuals.
During orientation, each La Via client is provided with the session schedule and assigned a counselor, who is their primary advocate throughout IOP. In addition to facilitating group discussions, counselors are available to discuss concerns and progress throughout treatment.
The initial assessment identifies a client’s need for services and appropriate level of care. The severity of substance abuse-related problems is the basis for appropriate placement in a treatment program.
Next our staff develops a working treatment plan, addressing the client’s current condition, where they need to be, and a timeline to achieve these goals. At a minimum, the treatment plan serves as a basis of shared understanding between the clientand staff. The degree to which the individual is motivated to change behavior and lifestyle is a critical factor that has a bearing on whether motivational enhancement interventions and sanctions are appropriate.

When deemed necessary, clients are referred to an on-site psychiatrist for evaluation and follow up.
Each IOP session includes peer support and discussions. Topics discussed in group pertain to recovery and support clients while they explore their fears, questions and feelings in a safe and supportive structure.
Mental health issues are widely recognized as a contributing factor in substance abuse for many people. La Via counselors have the knowledge and experience to recognize, evaluate, and treat co-occurring disorders of varying severity. Addressing all conditions which may affect a client during treatment provides the individual with a holistic skill set that enables healthy choices and decisions.
